  • LGBT partying is both commodified and controversial like never before. Cities like Berlin export parties as worldwide brands, recriminalization laws by right-wing regimes seek to ban the so-called promotion of our lifestyles, and boycott campaigns use dance music infrastructure to move politics more broadly. DJs can save our lives, but can they save the left? Can dance music and its cultures move politics?

    Ben Miller is a historian and gay wrongs activist. Co-host of the Bad Gays podcast and co-author of Bad Gays: A Homosexual History, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Schwules Museum in Berlin and at work on the first biography of the fashion designer Rudi Gernreich.

    Pnaelist Tarek Shukrallah is an author, curator and political science scholar working at the intersections of class, race and gender/sexuality. In 2024 they published the anthology «Nicht die Ersten. Bewegungsgeschichten von Queers of Color in Deutschland« on queer of Color history in Germany and are currently the lead curator to an exhibition on queer of Color politics at Schwules Museum in Berlin.
